A New Technology
Phone lines and fiber connect people to each other throughout this county and to people all over the world. Now, using the fiber optic infrastructure of Keystone Community Network, a new technology is used... Wireless Transmission!Read on and then please call us, 570-893-8111, to inquire about service availability in your area.
What is Wireless?
Wireless Internet service is broadband, high-speed Internet access which uses near-line-of-site technology or NLOS. Wireless networking utilizes unlicensed radio spectrum to transmit and receive data over the air, instead of using copper or fiber-optic cable.
This means that a special radio transmitter is used to “beam” the Internet connection to another radio in a home or business.
This does NOT mean that you can walk all around town and get our wireless service. You need one of our special wireless radios at your home or business.
If you can see/almost see one of our broadcast towers from your property, wireless Internet service can be yours.
Speed
The speed of wireless Internet service can be compared with a cable modem or DSL. Wireless access speeds can be designed to fit your individual needs. The download and/or upload speeds can range from 128k to 1.5Mb.Security
By virtue of the frequency hopping spread-spectrum technology, encryption and VPN technology, Wireless WAN/LAN are inherently more secure than wired WAN/LAN.
The security of this technology is defined at four levels:
- The frequency hopping, spread spectrum (FHSS) wireless technology itself
- The Extended Service Set Identifier (ESS ID)
- A user password
- Installation and configuration of a “VPN Box.”
Line-of-Sight Antenna Locations
- Susque-View
- Keystone Community Network Roof
- Bald Eagle Mountain
